Designer Notes | Retro Floral

As we welcome in the beginnings of a new season, we also welcome a decadent custom print to Mi Piaci. Designed exclusively in-house by our talented Designer, Mac, we sit down with her to discuss the process & inspiration behind creating our Retro Floral print.

“The design process for a new print is far from linear and goes through many evolutions before reaching the final result. It all begins with research, we looked for sources of inspiration from international fashion weeks all the way to vintage interior and upholstery prints. Our retro floral print was initially inspired by 1970’s interior prints from upholstery and wallpaper.”

“We really wanted to reintroduce print into our Mi Piaci collection this season with something that felt eye-catching but also wearable for the Mi Piaci customer.”

“From there, we began designing, and after some rough drafts we simplified the design and focused on one main floral element, playing with reflection, scale and colour to create interest. We incorporated familiar shades of pink and paired these with peaches and soft blues to add variation to the petals.”

“The choice of satin opposed to leather was driven by the saturation we were able to achieve, as well as the lustrous finish that creates occasion worthy shoes! Once we had finalised the design, we switched focus to placement and used paper to mock up exactly how the print would lay on each shoe before sending detailed specifications to our factory.”

Our Retro Floral print appears on two silhouettes this spring, our timeless sling-back Duchess, and a sculptural platform Sami.
